Family Visas in Canada
If you are a citizen or permanent resident of Canada, your relative may be able to come to Canada as a permanent resident as you can sponsor your relative under the Family Class program. To be a sponsor you must be 18 years of age or older.
Under this program you can sponsor your spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner, dependent child (including adopted child), or other eligible relative. Other eligible relatives include:
brothers or sisters, nephews or nieces, granddaughters or grandsons who are orphaned, under 18 years of age and not married or in a common-law relationship
another relative of any age or relationship if none of the above relatives could be sponsored, and you have no other relatives who are Canadian citizens, persons registered as Indians under the Indian Act or permanent residents and
accompanying relatives of the above (for example, spouse, partner and dependent children)
The process to sponsor your family begins when you, as a citizen or permanent resident in Canada, apply to be a sponsor.
If you sponsor a relative to come to Canada as a permanent resident, you have to take the responsiblility of supporting your relative financially when they arrive. As a sponsor, you must provide supportive documents for the same. You have to make sure that your spouse or relative does not need to seek financial assistance from the government.
There are two different processes for sponsoring your family. The process for sponsoring your spouse, conjugal or common-law partner and/or dependent children is different from the process for sponsoring other eligible relatives.
For Eligible Relatives
